A Common Whitetail dragonfly has been playing hide-and-seek with me all afternoon. While I was outside enjoying my ice water and just enjoying the day, he was content to fly around my head and landed on my feet a few times. As soon as the camera came out, the little bugger buzzed away and would land just long enough to tease me.

So, until I can capture a close-up of the little beast, enjoy this photograph from Wikipedia.

It is a beautiful fair-weather day. The sky is a gorgeous blue with loads of fluffy white clouds, and a few high atmosphere floaters that look like dragons lazing on the currents.

April - fickle month
The morning's bright light speaks of summer's promise.
The air chills my skin with winter's farewell kiss.

Clouds

White clouds scud along the horizon like sea-flecked foam in the wake of the setting sun.

I totally did not snap this whilst moving in my vehicle. I was at a stop sign *halo*.
I also wish I had a better camera for these shots than the mobile's camera.

The quality of light is stunning this morning. I awoke to a viridian world filtered through a veil of rain. It was a perfect moment to stretch out and enjoy watching the leaves dip and bow as rain drops danced down along them; and it made it that much easier to get up and go to work knowing that many more sights like this were awaiting me on my drive.

"I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."
~Jack London

Geraniums

I love geraniums. I love them so much that I am showing the geraniums that I have on my patio off to the world.

They cannot understand that the figure of a labourer -- some furrows in a ploughed field, a bit of sand, sea and sky -- are serious objects, so difficult but at the same time so beautiful, that it is indeed worth while to devote one's life to the task of expressing the poetry hidden in them.

Today I added some plants and ornaments to the restarted aquarium. I wish I had taken a before picture, but it would have been boring as it was only gravel and the filter.

The plants will be given a week or two to get established before I start adding some fish. I'm looking at the freshwater schoolers and possibly green barbs (who will school well in groups of 5 or more). For some reason, green barbs remind me of our cat Lily (possibly their colouring and ornery temperament).

The placement has turned out quite well, I think.

On Daylight Savings Time:

O, vain glorious man!
Striving to chain the sun to your convenience.

A pox on thee.

After returning from work this morning (and what a good morning it was!) I was ecstatically surprised to discover that the Manchester Derby had this result:

We have all of us eaten the pomegranate seed of language, and we are its Persephones in its ways of structuring our experience of ourselves and the world.

~John Moriarty, Turtle Was Gone a Long Time

Late autumn is truly making its presence known now and the the days will be cooler with rare warmer ones cherished and enjoyed.

The osprey nests are empty. They have been for a few weeks now, but it's just now stuck into my mind. I pass by the empty nests on the way to work each day, but today a few of the staff were wearing their Leonardtown Osprey sweatshirts for school spirit day and it reminded me that the birds have flown south for their wintering. Until March or thereabouts, the only ospreys in the county will be school mascots.
